The Switch Up headquarters in Nottingham is where it all began.
Located in St Ann’s – a neighbourhood within the “top” 5% of areas of multiple deprivation in the UK – it has provided a lifeline to so many.
Overall, Nottingham ranks 10th in the list of most deprived of the 317 administrative districts in England and as high as 6th in the highest proportions of children and older people in income deprivation.
Having a base that was central to the most vulnerable communities remains a priority, to ensure everyone can easily access our support.
Crafting our approach
Initially, Baz’s dream was to reach out to young people in troubled communities and use boxing coaching to not only improve physical fitness and mental wellness, but self-belief and self-discipline.
Initial success led to greater ambition, enabling Switch Up to create and deliver its Five Pillar approach, which now forms the basis of our entire organisation.
