Employment and training
Employment and training
Every young person deserves the chance to build a fulfilling future. We work closely with local business partners in the East Midlands, many of whom offer vital work placements.
For these businesses, it’s not just about the social value and ESG recognition it provides, but the opportunity to grow their businesses through diversity of thought and skillset.
Working with Switch Up can bring brilliant young people to your organisation’s doorstep, helping your recruitment while also helping the individual grow as a person. For many marginalised young people, the path to sustainable employment and training is blocked by significant barriers.
Switch Up statistics (Impact report 2023-2024):
65 young people entering employment
59 young people engaged in work experience/volunteering
11 young people starting employed status apprenticeships
Securing futures through Five Pillars
Where does change really begin? For us, it starts with a belief in potential. This is reinforced by our comprehensive Five Pillar approach. Almost all the young people we support are economically inactive.
Alarmingly, at least 66% of them are – or are at risk of becoming – NEET (Not in Education/Employment/Training). This status has a detrimental impact on health and significantly increases the likelihood of unemployment, or low-waged, low-quality employment.
Through our mentors, educators and partners, we match young people with businesses ready to invest in them. We provide support every step of the way – from refining interview skills and crafting compelling CVs to settling into a new role and navigating workplace challenges.
It’s real, personal, and consistent backing that empowers young people to overcome life’s hurdles and access opportunities they never thought they would have.
Bridging opportunity
Our employment coaches and mentors are experts at bridging the gap between talent and opportunity.
We’ve built strong, trusting relationships with local businesses – from construction and automotive to hospitality. These partners are committed to offering meaningful work placements and employment.
This collective strength ensures our interventions are impactful. They provide the practical skills and crucial connections needed for sustainable employment.
Randy’s Story
The true impact of our employment work is visible in the young lives we’ve helped transform. This is Randy’s story.
Through our programme, Randy received tailored mentoring and secured a work placement with a local construction firm. That placement turned into a full-time apprenticeship. Today, Randy is building confidence and a future.
Bradley’s Story
Bradley had been excluded from school when he found his way to Switch Up.
Through mentoring and education, he was able to start an apprenticeship and start to focus on a more positive path. Helping transform his live.
